Gotemba is located in the Northeastern part of Shizuoka prefecture, in the center of Japan. The area covering the top of Mt. Fuji to the ridgeline of Mt. Designed in 1957, the City Emblem has the initial letter 'G' presenting Mt. Fuji in the center and the ridgeline of Mt Hakone surrounding it. It represents the harmony and prosperity of the city and its citizens living in beautiful surroundings. |

The Fuji Cherry Blossom grows at the foot of Mt. Fuji. The trees reach between 3 and 4 meters in height and are covered in small pink flowers in blooming season (April). The beauty and pure elegance of the flowers is a true representative scene of the beauty of spring in Gotemba. |

The Japanese Gray Thrush migrates from the south to the foot of Mt Fuji around April-May. At this time it lives near the houses in the relatively low woods and sings cheerfully with its beautiful voice. |

The Zelkova grows abundantly at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Its wood is used as material to build houses. This giant, sturdy tree is a worthy symbol of the developing city. |
